This week, Hope Strengthens Foundation had the honor of delivering the latest contribution to our partnership with the Pediatric Resource Program at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer & Blood Disorders Center.
Pediatric Resource Program Director Joe Chabot and his amazing team support approximately 400-500 children and their families on an annual basis. They are able to leverage our partnership funds to deliver targeted assistance including short-term accommodations, gift cards for gas/transportation, food, and other out-of-pocket expenditures associated with care.
Many families struggle to cover all of the additional costs incurred as parents’ work hours and income are often drastically reduced to care for their sick child. Dana-Farber researchers have found that one in five children with cancer experience housing, food, or utility insecurity at the time of their diagnosis. These children face significantly inferior outcomes from diagnosis, through treatment, and into survivorship.
Our partnership with the Pediatric Resource Program at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer & Blood Disorders Center helps people like Charlie, a young boy who was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Charlie’s treatment regimen included numerous surgeries, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.
Advancing this important partnership will help ensure the needs of many more children just like Charlie are met. To make a contribution to support this work, please visit:
