Hope Strengthens Foundation (HSF) recently connected with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) Pediatric Resource Program that provides resource assistance to eligible families whose children are currently receiving treatment at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.
In their stem cell transplant program, they have many patients with hematologic illnesses that do not make them eligible for assistance from the many foundations that support pediatric cancer families. Examples include patients with diagnoses such as aplastic anemia, sickle cell, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, Hurler syndrome, and several others. It’s a challenge for these families under normal circumstances, never mind in an extreme situation like we are experiencing with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The DFCI Pediatric Resource Program provides direct, immediate financial support to help eligible families with expenses related to their child’s care acting as a bridge between immediate needs and longer-term solutions. This may include assistance with short-term accommodations for patients and family members traveling to Boston for treatment, gift cards for gas/transportation, food, and household expenses.
In addition, resource specialists identify and connect families to external resources including state and federal assistance programs, as well as foundations like ours.
HSF is honored to partner with the DFCI Pediatric Resource Program and broaden our reach to provide targeted support to those facing a life-threatening illness.
