Hope Strengthens Foundation recently delivered our latest contribution in support of our partnership with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Pediatric Resource Program.
This mission critical program serves as a pillar of support for children and families, helping alleviate transportation, food, and housing insecurity as they navigate cancer treatment. It is a beacon of hope, offering financial aid, emotional support, and practical resources to help patients and families through the most difficult time in their lives.
The following profiles offer examples of the positive difference you have helped Hope Strengthens Foundation make with your generous support. To preserve their privacy, the names of the children and their families have been changed.
Meet Macy
In February 2023, 7-year-old Macy was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma, which required a lengthy and intense treatment plan, including a stem cell transplant. Recently, Macy has faced complications, leading to extended hospital stays throughout this year.
An only child, Macy lives with her mother Kim near Boston. Despite her best efforts to keep working, Kim had to take leave from her job due to Macy’s health issues and prolonged hospitalization. Our partnership with the Pediatric Resource Program helped deliver targeted financial assistance to support Macy and her family during this difficult time.
Meet Lucy
Lucy lives with her twin brother and parents, Joe and Laura, near Boston. In April 2020, Lucy, then a toddler, was diagnosed with leukemia and relapsed near the end of her two-year treatment, requiring a new chemotherapy regimen and stem cell transplant. Following a recent urgent hospital admission for a brain hemorrhage, Lucy’s care team discovered she had relapsed again and needed yet another extended period of treatment.
The family has relied on Laura’s salary after Joe left his job to care for Lucy, but the loss of income has created a strain on their finances. Our partnership with the Pediatric Resource Program has helped provide support to Lucy’s family with costs incurred during her extended hospital stay.
