Tristan Naylor is an amazing 15-year-old boy who is currently battling B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (BALL) and Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). Of note, only a few hundred people of Tristan’s age are diagnosed with CML annually.
Tristan has experienced many extended stays at Boston Children’s Hospital since last July to undergo chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatments related to his diagnosis.
Thankfully, a bone marrow match was identified for Tristan and late last year, he underwent full body irradiation and successfully completed a bone marrow transplant. Tristan’s family was able to bring him home just before Christmas, where he began his isolation period that will last approximately one year.
Unfortunately, Tristan has faced additional complications that have required him to return to the hospital, including contracting Graft Vs Host Disease (GVHD), a condition that occurs when donated stem cells see the healthy tissues in the patient’s body as foreign and attack them. He has also had to deal with a bout of COVID-19 and stress fractures in both of his ankles.
In total, Tristan has spent almost four out of the last six months hospitalized for all of his treatments and complications with either Dad or Mom by his side every step of the way. The journey is far from over and has taken a significant toll on the Naylor family but they continue to try and stay strong and persevere through this difficult and challenging journey.
With your support, Hope Strengthens Foundation will be assisting Tristan and his family with medical bills and out of pocket expenditures related to medical care. When things stabilize, we also look forward to sending along some gifts that will help lift Tristan’s spirits during his period of isolation. Tristan is a big fan of gaming. He’s also a musician and loves playing the drums.
